Diary of an oxygen thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very real account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us. A part of me wishes that the book would have given me more answers than questions, yet sadly that is not the case. I read all these contemporary novels that make me wonder things I never gave much thought and I can’t wrap my brain around these concepts. Why must we seek revenge and try to make someone else pay for the pain that we have been caused? Why instead of trying to make sure that we dont hurt others like we have been hurt, we do the opposite? I have endless questions that will never get answered but I need answers. Why must “hurt people hurt people”? Why cant we try to help others and be kinder to one another after we have been hurt. The book made me question us as humanity in general. Up to this day, I carry the pain with me and those two relationships will forever be a part of who I am. Although the one thing I still can’t grasp is why it had to be me who they enjoyed to hurt. When I was reading this book, especially the beginning, I was able to understand their though process.

Many times throughout the year I will go through reading phases I will either read a ton or I won’t pick up a book for months.
